This timeline serves both as a historical record and as a tribute, recognising the dedication, leadership, and collaborative spirit that have shaped the RBA’s progress. A new community funding agreement benefiting people living and working in Northwest BC was officially announced between the Province and the RBA local governments.

The Province allocated $250 million over five years through Budget 2024 to the local governments of the RBA to support planning and construction of infrastructure such as roads, water, sewer and other community facilities needed to create liveable communities.

The RBA met with Premier Eby, Ministers Kang and Cullen and North Coast MLA Rice at the Union of BC Municipalities Convention. An Executive Summary produced by the RBA was released, along with a joint press release with the Province. An RBA-produced Staff Report is planned to be submitted to the Cabinet and Treasury by the year's end, with the goal to achieve an agreement early in 2024.

The Terms of Reference and Work Plan are approved by Minister of Municipal Affairs Anne Kang and the RBA. A newly-established staff working group focused on producing a final report for presentation to both parties at that year’s Union of BC Municipalities Convention.

The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed with the Province, with a plan to also establish a Work Plan and Terms of Reference. The Province also contributed $100,000 to assist the RBA in its work towards an agreement.

New Minister of Municipal Affairs, Stikine MLA Nathan Cullen attended a two-day RBA meeting in Terrace, with all RBA members, their respective CAOs, and provincial staff attending. A commitment was made to establish a Memorandum of Understanding.

Premier Horgan was presented with the Sustainability and Liveability Study Executive Summary at the Union of BC Municipalities Convention. In his closing speech, Premier Horgan expressed his support for the RBA in reaching an agreement “that will stand the test of time.”
